Dear potential reader,
Welcome to a world — this world – punctuated with hypotheticals and with no rationale for the magic and the disorder.
Do not try an connect the dots, for there are none to connect, lest you be sailing on the same vessel the ancients did, scared of the endless sky above and the horizon around, connecting the constellations into explanations and logic and gods which soothed their anxieties of existence when half the sky may right well have been dead (old photographs of stars whose light still is barreling towards us with reckless abandon).
Alas, if there is any candidate for arbitrary mysticism though, surely that is it, so the quip comes with salt (many grains).
A thank you is in order most. “Thank you.”
Thank you for hurtling through history towards this moment and thank you for stopping and thank you for taking the time to not stop so as to punctuate your private trail of time in a quiet, perfect, succinctness that has granted such a chance meeting.
This is all quite new. We will see where the daguerreotypes of old stars, the serendipitous coincidences of time, the wandering, spidering doodles of three separate hands take us. Blast, we have already come right around and the circle is all complete. It does not make real sense, but you have been forewarned, the journey has begun. Since it is a circle — the journey has begun, is the now, will begin again and again and again in a million foreign places, some with time and clocks, some without.
This is one such place without clocks (on the walls).
Perhaps this letter ends where it began and I’ll say hello to close.
“Hello.”
Welcome and Adieu,
Capt. Samuel P. Enderby, Darkoulias Royal Navy
